This is the prologue to the latest book by Jaime Bravoa 15 year old entrepreneur that I highly recommend you to read. And of which I feel very, very proud, even more so when the epilogue has been written by another 15 year old crack, a nonconformist programmer named Jorge Izquierdo who holds a megaphone in the photo with Jaime.
We dreamers are living a great moment. Jaime is a fifteen year old dreamer who has chosen to be an economist, and we should take him seriously, firstly because the old economists persist in their mistake of interpreting the change of era we are living through as just another cyclical crisis; secondly because it will be Jaime and his generation, born after the year in which the Internet became popular - 1993 - who will create the new world we will live in. And thirdly because today we can not only dream, but we must dream; conformists are condemned to ostracism, the gray no longer has a place when it comes to drawing a new paradigm.
We have been fortunate to be the protagonists of a change of era of which there is not one per century. Let's enjoy it and trust in young people. It is time to unlearn what we have learned, to eliminate prejudices and to look to the future as if nothing had existed before.
To you, reader, I ask you to keep in mind that you are reading a fifteen year old boy who writes about society. Be patient and forget your prejudices, for the solutions he offers may be better than the ones you have in your head. Remember that very little of what helped you survive the twentieth century will help you in this convulsive twenty-first.
Jaime talks about society in general, he tries to dissect it in order to explain the patterns of change in which we currently live. Curiously, it leads him to a circular reference, to not being able to conclude anything through the scientific method he wants to apply, instead, without realizing it, Jaime finds the solution to what he is looking for in the process. His career leads him nowhere as he returns to the starting point except for you, the reader, to learn from his innocence along the way.
I enjoy reading Jaime because he is the living reflection of this turbulent time, he enjoys uncertainty, he tries to reassure his elders looking for guidelines that he knows beforehand do not exist. Deep down he is aware of chasing an entelechy, although he enlightens us with the process because uncertainty is a natural place for him, and I recommend you to adapt yourself to it too if you want to survive this time.
"We are educating 21st century kids, with 20th century teachers in 19th century schools."
It's time to create and innovate because now more than ever, taking risks is the safest thing to do.
